What is Metabolic Health and Why Does It Go Beyond Weight?
Most people hear “metabolism” and think about calories in versus calories out. That's only part of the picture. Metabolic health covers how well your body regulates blood sugar, manages inflammation, produces cellular energy, and balances hormones day to day.
Metabolic health testing at Newport Precision Rx looks past the scale entirely. We examine insulin sensitivity, energy production, and biological aging markers because these are
the systems that actually determine how you feel. Weight is often a symptom of what's happening beneath the surface, not the root cause itself.
Why Hormone Testing Matters Before Any Treatment Plan
A single low lab value is not enough to know whether hormone therapy is right for you. Newport Precision Rx starts every plan with a full evaluation, comprehensive testing and a review of your symptoms, health history and goals, because hormone therapy should never be prescribed from one number in isolation.
This applies equally to women exploring BHRT and men exploring TRT. Newport Precision Rx works with patients throughout Newport Beach, Corona del Mar and greater Orange County, including women searching for a perimenopause specialist. Your treatment plan, if one is appropriate, is
built around your full picture, not a single test result.

What Does the Initial Hormone Panel Include?
Testing is individualized based on your symptoms, menstrual status, current therapy and injection schedule, so not every patient receives the same panel. A comprehensive hormone panel typically draws from the following markers. Lab work is coordinated through our Blood /
Lab Work services, with additional testing available through Specialized Testing when clinically indicated.
Core Health and Metabolic Markers
• CBC with differential, comprehensive metabolic panel and lipid panel
• Hemoglobin A1c and fasting glucose and insulin
• TSH and free T4
• Vitamin D, ferritin and vitamin B12
• hs-CRP when clinically appropriate
Women's Hormone Evaluation
• Estradiol, progesterone, total and free testosterone
• Sex hormone-binding globulin and DHEA-S
• FSH and LH, with prolactin, free T3 or morning cortisol when clinically indicated
• For cycling women, testing may be timed to the menstrual cycle
Men's Hormone Evaluation
For men, evaluation typically begins with the following markers:
• Total and free testosterone, generally two early-morning measurements
• Sex hormone-binding globulin and a sensitive-assay estradiol when appropriate
• LH, FSH, DHEA-S and CBC with hemoglobin and hematocrit
• PSA based on age, risk factors and shared decision-making
• Prolactin, free T3 or morning cortisol when clinically indicated
What Types of Hormone Therapy Are Available?
Newport Precision Rx offers individualized bioidentical hormone therapy in several delivery forms, which may include topical creams or gels, transdermal patches, oral capsules, vaginal preparations and testosterone injections.
When a commercially available product does not appropriately meet your clinical needs, we collaborate with licensed compounding pharmacies to provide customized formulations. Compounded medications are not
FDA approved and are considered only when clinically appropriate and legally permissible. There is no one-size-fits-all hormone protocol; every formulation is selected individually.
Do I Need to Join the Membership First?
No. You can enroll in Precision Hormone Care without becoming a member. This program is billed and structured separately from the Maintain Health Membership, and the membership does not offer a discount on this program.
Is This Program Right for You?
This program may be worth exploring if you are a woman in perimenopause or menopause noticing brain fog, sleep disruption, mood changes, hot flashes or reduced libido, or a man noticing persistent fatigue, abdominal weight gain, loss of muscle or low libido, even when your lab results fall within a standard range.
Genetic factors that may influence hormone metabolism can also be considered as an optional add-on when clinically useful, though genetic testing is not required and is not included in the standard program price.
What Patients Say
“Roza has been a
very important part in my healing journey with a few issues stemming from menopause and the others I would have never known until I took a genetic test she brought to my attention.
EVERYONE should have access to the information she is providing.
I spent so much money on supplements that were bringing zero value to my body and would have never known until this test.
I highly recommend Roza. She truly cares and helped to find the best plan to optimize your health.”
- DW, patient
What Is a Realistic Timeline for Results?
Hormone therapy is not an instant solution, and every person responds differently. Some patients notice early changes in symptoms such as hot flashes or sleep within several weeks, while other changes take longer. The first three months are used to evaluate response, monitor safety and refine your treatment plan. Individual results vary.
“Your health is complex. Your care should be precise.
Newport Precision Rx combines advanced clinical pharmacy expertise, whole-person evaluation and collaborative care to create a strategy built around you, not a standard protocol.”
- Roza Kazemi, PharmD, MSPS, Clinical Pharmacist
Frequently Asked Questions
How do I know whether my symptoms are related to my hormones?
Many symptoms, including fatigue, mood changes, sleep disruption and low libido, can overlap with hormone imbalance but also with other conditions. A comprehensive evaluation of your symptoms, health history and lab work helps identify whether hormones are a contributing factor before any treatment is considered.
Do I need hormone therapy just because one of my laboratory results is low?
Not necessarily. A single low lab value is not enough on its own to determine whether hormone therapy is appropriate. Your full symptom picture, health history and additional testing are reviewed together before any treatment recommendation is made.
What type of hormone therapy is best for me: patch, cream, oral medication or injection?
The right delivery method depends on your symptoms, lab results, preferences and health history. Options may include creams, patches, oral capsules, vaginal preparations or injections, and your plan is individualized rather than based on a single standard protocol.
How quickly should I expect to notice a difference?
Timelines vary by person. The first three months are used to evaluate your response and refine your plan.
What are the risks, side effects and monitoring requirements?
Hormone therapy carries individualized risks and requires ongoing monitoring, which may include repeat lab work and review of safety markers such as hematocrit or prostate health depending on your treatment. Your plan includes scheduled follow-up to monitor response and safety over time.
